Going Against the Grain
Nestled along the Willamette River, the Valley River Inn is a reimagined boutique hotel in Eugene that blends 1970s architecture with modern lodge sensibilities. Following an unexpected fire, the renovation led by Dash Design became an opportunity to restore the hotel’s iconic character while refreshing its spaces with warmth, texture, and local storytelling.
Anchored in the theme “Going Against the Grain,” the design honors Eugene’s logging roots through exposed timber beams, live-edge wood details, and custom furnishings by local makers like Urban Lumber. Public spaces were opened up and infused with Pendleton-inspired elements, retro plaid seating, and a two-story glazed brick fireplace.
From river-inspired carpets in the ballroom to wildflower-print drapery in the guest rooms, each element ties back to the region’s natural beauty. With new event spaces, a sunken lounge, poolside updates, and guestroom redesigns, Valley River Inn is once again a destination—authentic, inviting, and deeply connected to the spirit of the Pacific Northwest.
